Lance Cpl Kenneth Forte, aviation ordnance technician, from Benton, PA throws Capt. Clayton Bollinger, AH-1W Super Cobra pilot, from Ridgetop, Tenn., both from Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 263, during a Judo class held in the hangar bay of the USS Nassau.
The course was started by Capt. Bollinger shortly after the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) deployed last August and has been going strong ever since. The class is comprised of about 20 Marines and Sailors who meet five nights a week to train for three or more hours a night.
"We concentrate on ground fighting, takedowns, and some striking movements," said Bollinger. "Everything we do supplements the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and expands on things in more detail."
The class has recently applied for a charter from the National Judo Association.
